Michigan teen accused of throwing chair at teacher’s head arrested, faces assault charges: report

A 15-year-old Michigan high school student accused of launching an iron chair at his unsuspecting teacher’s head has been arrested and faces criminal charges following an “unacceptable act of violence.”

The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office charged an unnamed junior at Southwestern Classical Academy with two counts of felony assault for throwing a chair and injuring his teacher, according to ABC 12.

In the now-viral video recorded on Thursday, two female students were involved in a heated argument where they shouted obscenities at each other from across the classroom.

The teacher, who was trying to restore order between the students, turned his back when one of the girls picked up an iron chair and threw it at the educator.

The chair hit the teacher on the head causing him to fall to the floor, where he lay still for seven seconds.

The school resource officer was called to break up the fight and found the teacher lying on the ground with a head injury, Flint Police Chief Terence Green told the outlet.

The two girls involved in the fight were arrested.

The unnamed educator was rushed to the hospital for treatment of his head injury and is “doing well,” according to a statement from District Superintendent Kevelin Jones.

He has been released from the hospital and stated plans to return to the classroom.

The letter states that the district is investigating the violent incident.

The viral video — which has amassed more than 21 million views on X, formerly known as Twitter — has sparked outrage among local leaders, who point out that the attack strengthens Michigan’s weak school system.

“This video perfectly captures the sad state of Education in Michigan – no order or direction, no respect for teachers, and worst of all, NO LEARNING,” said Former Detroit Police Chief James Craigwho plans to run as a Republican in the upcoming Senate race.
