A Michigan woman was mauled by her pet Rottweiler earlier this month in an hour-long fight that left her home carpeted in blood after she fed the dog THC-laced rubber.
The unidentified woman told authorities that 2-year-old Blau pounced on her almost immediately after she injected him with THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that is poisonous and sometimes fatal to dogs.
Blau followed the owner into the bathroom “while she was on the toilet and ripped her off the seat,” according to an incident report obtained by The Smoking Gun.
The drunken 82-pound dog and the woman fought for about an hour inside the house in Gaylord, a town 50 miles south of Cheboygan, before she was able to lock herself in her bedroom “and let the dog run the house.”
The owner called 911 to report the dog attack, but Blau was “subdued, not barking or growling” by the time EMS and animal control officers arrived.
Blau tried to escape from Animal Control Officer Melissa FitzGerald and her partner, who were both carrying arresting poles, but were easily attacked and subdued.
“The dog did not act aggressively or bark at the ACO,” she wrote.

FitzGerald then walked into the bedroom to get Blau’s owner out safely and saw “a large amount” of blood splattered on the carpet, floor and walls.
“I saw the victim lying face down on the bed covered in blood,” said FitzGerald. “The room was half dark but I could see the extreme amount of blood on the bed and the walls and floor. The victim said he could not get up.”
The woman was flown to a medical center 60 miles away, where she underwent emergency surgery, was intubated and placed in the intensive care unit.
He nearly lost his right arm in the attack, but doctors were able to save it — though “there wasn’t much left between his shoulder and elbow,” the report said.

The woman’s father later told officers that he had bought the gum for Blau because his daughter was going through a “bad divorce” and that Blau was “very depressed.”
THC is considered a toxic substance for canines that can cause a number of severe reactions from lethargy to vomiting, as well as extreme agitation, according to the American Kennel Club.
Blau already had a history of aggression and was reported as “forced and growling and trying to bite” during a March 2023 visit to the vet.
Several men in the victim’s family asked FitzGerald if they could pick up Blau from the shelter to kill him, but the animal control officer warned that that was against the law.
The woman’s estranged husband called under the guise of trying to “save” Blau, stating he wanted to “try to get her back” before learning that FitzGerald didn’t like letting Blau live and was going to take the case to court.
The husband then changes his tune and proceeds to ask if he can kill Blau himself by shooting him, but is refused.
The woman and her estranged husband eventually agreed to have Blau euthanized by a veterinarian.
She and her parents visited the shelter 11 days after the attack to say goodbye to Blau before she was humanely put down.
