Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood has paid tribute to his late bandmate Christine McVie on what would have been her 80th birthday.

McVie, a member of the ‘classic’ Mac Fleetwood line-up for decades, died in November 2022 after suffering a massive stroke following a cancer diagnosis. McVie’s Fleetwood Mac bandmates, including Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, wrote tributes on his death.

Mick Fleetwood also wrote a tribute to the singer and keyboard player. Fleetwood was a co-founder of the band with Peter Green. McVie’s ex-husband, John, was also part of Fleetwood Mac’s early line-up. Christine would join the group in the early seventies.

Fleetwood, 76, took to his Instagram following McVie’s death to write a tribute to his longtime bandmate.

She wrote, “This is the day that my dear sweet friend Christine McVie has flown away.. and left us earthlings to listen with bated breath to the sound of the ‘songbird’ reminding one and all that love is all around us. to reach and touch in this precious life bestowed upon us. Part of my heart flew away today.. I will miss everything about you Christine McVie Memories abound.. they flew to me,” Fleetwood concluded with two hearts and a rainbow emoji. (per The Blast)

A statement announcing McVie’s death was posted to the social media accounts of Fleetwood Mac and McVie, respectively.

The group wrote, “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. He is truly one of a kind, special and gifted beyond measure. He is the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend they could ever have in their life. We are very lucky to have life with him. Individually and together, we appreciate Christine very much and are grateful for the wonderful memories we have. He will be greatly missed,” the band concluded.

Fleetwood Honors McVie With Instagram Post, And Ukulele Tribute

Fleetwood took to Instagram to pay tribute to McVie once again for the anniversary of his death.

She posted three photos of the couple together, including a photo with a Halloween scarecrow!

In her birthday tribute, Fleetwood wrote, “To Christine, Here’s thinking of you on your heavenly birthday! As for me, even missing you on your 80th birthday celebration… I love so many who have so many fondest memories! And most importantly, your song lights up the world on your birthday,” Fleetwood continued. “Chris, Happy Birthday. You are loved and greatly missed,” Fleetwood concluded.

Fleetwood later broadcast a ukelele tribute to McVie. He collaborated with Jake Shimabuko, whom he calls a “Ukelele virtuoso,” on a rendition of “Songbird” that McVie loved.

The piano ballad appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s landmark LP, “Rumours” (1977).

Buckingham also paid tribute to his late teammate with an Instagram birthday tribute.

Using lyrics from the duo’s 2017 song “Red Sun” in the caption, the “Holiday Road” singer posted a vintage photo of the longtime partners singing together, circa the 1980s.
