Migrants cheer as they pack into train heading to the US from Mexico: video

Hundreds of migrants have been filmed cheering as they pack a cargo train bound for the US amid a record number of illegal border crossings.

Footage broadcast by Fox News on Sunday shows a FerroMex train passing through the central Mexican city of Zacatecas as it heads north on its 750-mile journey to the US.

Every freight car was full of people cheering, clapping and whistling in clear victory — some were even hanging over the edge and waving at the camera.

The footage quickly went viral after being tweeted by Fox News’ Griff Jenkins, who wrote that the migrant “clearly ignored the message: ‘don’t come.'”

He was referring to Vice President Kamala Harris who told Guatemalan migrants in June: “Don’t come. Don’t come. The United States will continue to enforce our laws and protect our borders.”

The Post has reached out to US Customs and Border Protection for comment.

The video comes amid an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants into the United States.

In August, US Border Patrol officers detained at least 91,000 migrants who crossed the border as part of family groups, according to data obtained by the Washington Post – surpassing the previous month’s record of 84,486 migrant families apprehended in May 2019, under the Trump administration.

Officials are also seeing a significant increase in the number of unaccompanied minors crossing into the country.

The influx has overwhelmed Border Patrol agents, who will likely soon begin releasing migrants onto the streets of El Paso, Texas.

“Our No. 1 priority is the safety of our community and the safety of our asylum seekers,” Mayor Oscar Leeser said at a news conference Friday morning.

“We don’t want them sleeping on the streets, but at some point, we’re going to run out of capacity.”

Until now, he said, city governments have been able to delay so-called “street clearances,” when immigrants who have been screened and processed by the Border Patrol are released into the community when the agency runs out of space to hold them.

El Paso shelters that normally accommodate immigrants are at capacity, telling The Post in August that they are “busier than ever.”

Leeser said the city has 400 dedicated hotel rooms per night available to immigrants – paid for by federal tax dollars. Sometimes, the need is greater, as on Thursday night when migrants filled 700 hotel rooms.

In those cases, they can avoid having migrants on the street by booking extra hotel space, but rooms are not always available.

“The number continues to grow,” Leeser explained. “This has been something that we find every day to prevent from happening.”

To deal with some of the flooding, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began giving migrants passage to so-called sanctuary cities, such as New York, in April.

The aim is to force blue countries to share the burden of the migration crisis.

On Tuesday, Abbott announced that the state had brought more than 35,000 immigrants to northern cities – including more than 13,000 to New York City.

“Texas has taken over 35,000 immigrants to self-proclaimed sanctuary cities,” Abbott tweeted Tuesday, including a breakdown of which cities are receiving the most immigrants.

“Over 11,300 to DC, Over 13,300 to NYC, Over 6,700 to Chicago, Over 2,600 to Philadelphia, Over 1,000 to Denver, Over 480 to LA,” the governor said.

The number released by Abbott Tuesday represents an increase of more than 12,000 since the state last updated the number of immigrants it has sent out of the state under Operation Lone Star — the state’s border security and burden-sharing effort launched by the governor in 2021.

Meanwhile, Arizona has also become a major border flashpoint — with the Border Patrol’s Tucson sector encounter being the highest in the country.

Border sources there confirmed the state recorded 9,100 migrants found in a single day last week — close to the record 10,000 a day experienced across the border in May when Title 42 expired.

More than 7,400 of those migrants had crossed illegally and then turned themselves in to the border patrol, overwhelming available resources.

Migrants have been released onto the streets of Nogales and Casa Grande, a Border Patrol source told The Post, sharing photos of migrants who have made their way to the US from around the world loitering in public spaces.

Sources also say the massive influx of immigrants into Arizona is being orchestrated by cartels.
