As fans prepare to see Cyrus and Parton engage in the countdown tradition during “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party” on Saturday, December 31, the former is preparing to be a better listener.
The country singer shared her 2023 resolutions ahead of the festival with Hoda Kotb during an appearance on NBC’s soon-to-be-aired “A Toast to 2022!” special. The exclusive clip, which PEOPLE has obtained, shows Cyrus stating:
“I think my resolution is really – my instincts are very strong, but sometimes I’m not a good listener.”
The 30-year-old then informed Kotb that Parton delivered a message from her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, which read, “’You’re not hard of hearing. You’re hard to hear.’ And I think that will be my resolution, to not only listen to myself, but to listen to others.
When the host asked the “We Can’t Stop” singer if she felt different after entering her 30s last month, she replied, “I always say that the truth is mine and the opposite is also true. Somehow I’m right- really different, and then somehow, I’m exactly the same.”
Turning 30 was sure to be a memorable one for Cyrus, who got a significant show of affection from Parton. The 76-year-old, who posed as the “So Undercover” actor’s godmother, took to Instagram to release two photos of them smiling.

While the first slide featured the “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker hugging his godmother from behind with his eyes closed, the second showed the two standing akimbo while leaning on each other’s backs.
They were both surrounded by black and gold balloons and decorations, which perfectly matched their outfits for the shoot. Cyrus rocked a sleeveless black dress — showing off a tattoo on her arm — and a pair of matching heels.
Instead, Parton opted for a long-sleeved gold number with black trim along the wrists, shoulders, chest and stomach. The philanthropist added a black ring and a pair of gold slippers to her look.
Tagging the singer-songwriter in the caption, Parton said, “I can’t wait to celebrate with you and ring in the new year!!” Other famous stars and fans quickly camped out in the comments section, where they showered the festival with love.
“I love seeing Miley and her (magical, fairy) godmother!” one fan wrote, referring to the bond shared by Cyrus and Parton. A second fan called the two a “power couple,” and a third asked them to do a TV show together.
A fourth praised them for “loving each other,” and another commented that they were looking forward to their New Year’s Eve celebration. The Blast shared that the show will make a return to NBC and Peacock, with Parton replacing Pete Davidson.
