Miley Cyrus drops her low-key ballad, “Once Young” and wears the right clothes for it, too — in the music video, she sings, looking into the camera, wearing a red sequin bustier over a Mickey Mouse tee, marking the time when, well, she used to be young. Fans say they need “about 3 business days to recover the emotion from this song!”
Miley Cyrus Wrote This Song At A Vulnerable Time

Cyrus has been different things to different people. She was a huge teen icon when she started her career with “The Mickey Mouse Club” but many vilified her once she got out of “good girl” mode and found herself and her music. Her relationship with Liam Hemsworth and the fallout after the divorce, with rumors of her infidelity also blackened her in the eyes of the media, and Cyrus explained this song in a previous post.
The 30-year-old wrote, “These lyrics were written almost 2 years ago at the beginning of my ESV. At that time I felt misunderstood.”
He went on to write, “I’ve spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has come to release a song that I can perfect forever. Even though my work is done, this song will continue to write itself every day. The truth is it’s still unfinished is part of the beauty of it. That’s my life right now ….. unfinished yet complete.”
Here’s Miley, explaining the song a little more!
Fans Say They Smell Grammys!

To say the song has found a place in every fan’s heart is an understatement as it leaves behind a lot of emotions and feelings that are quite raw.
Wrote one, “I have truly grown to be one of her biggest fans. She is so relatable. This is why she is truly loved by so many! This is a quality that VERY FEW music artists possess. I love the simplicity and vulnerability of her music. It just raw, honest, and beautiful!!!” Many felt it might just have given it a Grammy since it was so honest.
It also helped that Cyrus dedicated the song to her fans, writing, “This song is about honoring who we have been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become. I feel proud when I reflect on my past and happy when I think about the future. I thank my loyal fans who make my dreams come true every day. I am very grateful for your steadfast support. This song is for you.”
Clearly, while the video may show him weak at the start, singing with tears streaming down his face, towards the last verse it turns into a celebration.
It seems many fans have been with him along the way, as one commented, “I’ve watched you since childhood, and growing up with you was like following a distant friend. It’s crazy to see who you are now and how far you’ve grown as a person. Made the mistake of having it all like a true Bad A– ❤️ much love.”

Miley Cyrus’ “Once Young” Is A Celebration, Not An Apology

Cyrus begins the song emotionally, singing:
“Truth is bullet proof, nobody fools you I’m not dressed the same Me and who you say I am yesterday Have broken up”
The chorus is also a perfect hardback to the past as he croons:
“I know I used to be crazy I know I used to be fun You said I used to be wild I said I used to be young”
As he sang the first song softly, from a place of hurt, by the end of the song he was happy, fearless and unapologetic and the fans responded to the tone of the song like a Phoenix.
As Kristin Chenoweth said, “I’m not her how you do it miss Miley but you get better and better if that’s possible. And what heart you show here. True depth that can only come from learning from grief.”
Here’s Cyrus, happy that she’s paving the way for the next chapter of her life!
