Millennials most prone to phone-related accidents as tech injuries jump 20% since 2020, study finds

Hey, millennials, look up!

Phone-related accidents are on the rise, a new study finds — and millennials are suffering the most injuries.

The generation most associated with financial problems appears to be turning to their cell phones for so much escape that they forget where they are in the physical world, according to a survey published Thursday by the science site Study Finds.

After combing through 10 years of data collected from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, the researchers concluded that technology-related injuries have jumped by 20% since 2020, “with millennials being the most vulnerable to such incidents.”

The jump in phone-related injuries — which account for 23% of all tech injuries across America — is largely to blame for the jump.

“From tripping over cords to walking into objects while texting, cell phones cause a variety of injuries. General pain, bruises (bruises), and even cuts on the face and head are common,” the researchers said.

“Researchers found that texting while walking is on track to become the most common cause of technology-related injuries across the United States.”

Despite phone injuries on the rise, television took home the No. 1 for technology-related injuries nationwide, accounting for 30% of technology-related injuries.

The most common reports came in the form of lower back strain and sprains from lifting heavy dumb boxes, according to the study.

Computer and video game systems have also caused most of their damage.

“The review found that these devices contribute to a variety of injuries, particularly causing pain in the upper part of the trunk, including the chest, back, and ribs,” the researchers said.

“This is often associated with poor posture during gaming or prolonged computer use.”

This increase in injuries may be due to the increasing reliance on technology in everyday life, especially as people spend more time working from home due to COVID-19.

The pandemic has led to an increased reliance on technology for entertainment.
