Minnesota Democrat Dean Phillips eyes White House bid to unseat Biden

Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips is reportedly planning to enter the 2024 White House race and challenge for the Democratic nomination.

The three-term congressman plans to kick off his campaign Friday in Concord, NH, two sources told Politico.

Democratic consulting firm Fletcher Ridge secured the permit for the State House Plaza from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, a spokeswoman for Concord’s Department of Administrative Services said.

Tennessee-based Fletcher has been contacted to work on Phillips’ campaign, sources said.

Meanwhile, New Hampshire Democratic Party chairman Ray Buckley told WMUR-TV that Phillips, 54, told him he was considering filing for the state’s first primary ballot before New Hampshire’s Friday filing deadline.

Another source warned that Phillips may still be cold feet and opting not to launch a long-term campaign to unseat fellow Dem President Joe Biden.

Earlier this month, Phillips stepped down from his position as co-chairman of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee because he likes to run for president.

Phillips has argued that President Biden’s advanced age at 80 years puts him at a significant disadvantage for re-election and governing the country for another four years.

Phillips’ camp did not respond to an immediate request for comment.
