A ring worth more than $800,000 that mysteriously disappeared from a hotel room at the luxurious Ritz Paris is said to have later been found gathering dust in a vacuum cleaner bag.
The ring’s owner, a Malaysian businessman staying at the luxury hotel, filed a police report on Friday accusing an employee of stealing the treasure — only for Ritz security guards to discover the ring in a dusty vacuum bag on Sunday, Le Parisien reported.
The woman told police she left the ring on the table in her hotel room on Friday when she went out shopping in town for a few hours, and when she returned it was nowhere to be found.
After filing the complaint, the hotel said it was exploring all leads. The police began to investigate and prosecutors were prepared to file charges if it was found that the ring had been stolen by hotel staff.
When the precious gem was found in a dusty vacuum cleaner bag, the guest had already left for London. He is expected to return to Paris to retrieve his prized ring, worth more than $807,000 (€750,000), according to the report.

“Thanks to the diligent work of the security guards, the ring was found this morning,” the hotel told the newspaper in a statement.
“We would like to thank the staff at the Ritz Paris who set this search in motion and who work every day with integrity and professionalism.”
The Ritz offered the woman three extra nights to make up for the inconvenience, which she did not accept, according to the report.

The incident comes after a Saudi princess had more than $900,000 worth of jewelry swiped from her room at the famous hotel in 2018.
A few months earlier, thieves had stolen about $5 million worth of merchandise from the hotel’s jewelry store.
The valuables were eventually recovered but two of the suspected thieves are still at large, French media reported at the time.
