Missing Israeli woman’s dad heard gunfire before phone went dead

The father of a missing Israeli woman heard gunshots on the phone with his terrified daughter, before the line went dead, the woman’s mother told The Post.

“He said, ‘They’re shooting. They’re shooting at us! They’re getting closer. Take care of the dog,’ and then the phone went dead,” Orin Gatz said in a phone interview from Israel.

Her daughter, Eden Zecharya, 28, has not been seen since leaving the Tribe of Nova music festival in the Negev Desert with her boyfriend and friends.

“I can’t believe that I prayed that he was kidnapped by the worst terrorist organization in the world and not killed,” the grieving 48-year-old mother said in Hebrew, speaking through a translator.

Zecharya, a media studies student, left the festival shortly before Hamas fighters stormed Saturday’s celebration, killing at least 260 attendees and abducting dozens.

“He left the party because he wanted to go home,” Gatz said.

A few minutes later, his daughter called from the car, saying she was on her way home, as sirens blared in the area.

“He said, ‘Yes, everything is OK. I’m on my way home and I’m going home, I’m fine. Wait a minute, Daddy’s on the other line,’” Gatz recalled.

But he didn’t go far.

Hamas terrorists opened fire on the car, injuring her boyfriend, Ofek Kimhi, and his friend.

The worst attack on Israel in 50 years: How we got here

2005: Israel unilaterally withdraws from the Gaza Strip three decades after winning the territory from Egypt in the Six-Day War.

2006: The terrorist group Hamas wins Palestinian legislative elections.

2007: Hamas takes control of Gaza in a civil war.

2008: Israel launched a military offensive against Gaza after Palestinian terrorists fired rockets into the city of Sderot.

2023: Hamas launches its biggest attack on Israel in 50 years.

More than 1,200 Israelis have been killed, more than 3,000 injured and at least 100 taken hostage, with the death toll expected to rise after Hamas terrorists fired thousands of rockets and sent dozens of militants into Israeli cities.

Hamas terrorists are seen taking women hostage and parading them through the streets in a gruesome video.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced “We are at war” and promised Hamas would pay an “unprecedented price.”

Gaza health officials reported at least 1,050 Palestinians killed and more than 5,000 injured.

“She heard the boyfriend screaming in the background,” said the distraught mother, referring to Zecharya’s father.

The friend survived the bloodshed, but Zecharya and Kimhi have not been heard from or seen since the surprise attack.

Zecharya said his daughter “never hated him” and was “all about peace and love.”

She remains hopeful that Zecharya – who loves animals and travels to music festivals – will soon be reunited with his family.

“They killed us,” Gatz said. “But they cannot kill our hope.”
