Missing woman’s body found at Boston airport garage after boyfriend kills her, flees to Kenya: police

The body of a missing woman was found in a car parked in a Boston airport garage on Wednesday after her boyfriend allegedly killed her and boarded a plane to Kenya.

State troopers found Margaret “Maggie” Mbitu, 31, in the Logan Airport Center parking lot around 6:30 p.m., two days after she was reported missing, the agency said.

He was found with large gashes to his face and neck, as well as other puncture wounds to his side, with officials saying he showed “obvious signs of death.”

“They observed a large amount of blood in the vehicle,” an arrest warrant seen by The Post said.

Mbitu was last seen around 11 p.m. Monday leaving his job at the nonprofit BAMSI in Halifax, about 30 miles southeast of Boston, according to a missing persons poster.

Police are now hunting her boyfriend Kevin Kangethe, 40, who allegedly committed the horrific crime before boarding a flight to Kenya.

The time of Mbitu’s death was not disclosed, but police said Kangethe bought a plane ticket to the African country in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He was seen on surveillance video driving into the Logan Airport parking garage, entering the terminal area and then checking into a flight bound for Kenya, according to the warrant.

Friends and loved ones remember Mbitu as a kind and charismatic woman who worked as a per diem nurse alongside her mother.

The next day, after Mbitu’s body was found, BAMSI said his community was “heartbroken by the tragic murder.”

“She was warm, caring and loved by everyone she worked with, both the staff and the people she cared for in our group homes,” the nonprofit said on Facebook.

“As an agency, we are mourning the loss of a remarkable young woman.”

State police obtained a warrant for Kangethe’s arrest and are working with Kenyan authorities to bring him home.
