Missouri doctor Sarah Sweeney feared ‘murderer’ boyfriend before her sudden death, texts reveal

The Missouri doctor found dead at the home of his firefighter fiancee this month once admitted to a friend that living with him was “scary” given rumors that he was the “‘killer'” responsible for his previous partner’s death.

Sarah Sweeney, a podiatrist, wrote to her former colleague and friend, Danielle Mankunas, about her concerns on the morning of March 17, 2022.

“I had to move in with my “killer” boyfriend [sic] which is sometimes scary,” he wrote in a message seen by The Post.

At the time, Sweeney was considering a lawsuit against his former employer, Dr. Franklin Harry and his Best Foot Forward (BFF) clinic, and tried to persuade Mankunas to support his efforts despite the financial and professional risks.

In November 2022, she filed a complaint accusing Harry and his business of sexual harassment, gender and disability discrimination and retaliation while she worked there in 2021, documents show.

Dr Sarah Sweeney, 39, was found dead on January 13.

Harry and BFF filed a counterclaim, in which attorney Mark D. Murphy sought correspondence between Sweeney and Manors to determine the former’s mental state.

“[A]according to Sweeney [Daus was] abusive and suspected of murdering a previous girlfriend,” Murphy wrote, referring to his correspondence with Mankunas.

The case was still ongoing when Sweeney, 39, was found dead at Daus’ Westwood home in the early morning of Jan 13.

Her body showed “no obvious signs of trauma,” but the incident is being treated as suspicious pending the results of an autopsy, according to law enforcement.

At the time of his death, Sweeney was estranged from his mother and stepfather because of their concerns about Daus, his mother, Teresa Sweeney Light, told Fox News Digital.

Four years earlier, Daus – a local fire captain called first responders to his ex’s address in Creve Coeur to report that his then-fiancee, Grace Holland, had allegedly shot herself in front of him.

Holland, 35, was initially determined to die by suicide — but the mother-of-four’s family later named Daus in a wrongful-death lawsuit alleging he was controlling and abusive.

Local authorities asked the District Police of St. Louis reviews the incident in 2022 following Holland’s insistence that he did not kill himself, Sgt. Tracy Panus told The Post.

They presented their findings to the prosecution in early December, Sgt. Tracy Panus told the outlet.

When Sweeney’s loved ones forwarded his articles on the matter of concern, he stopped responding to their messages, lamented Sweeney Light.

On Tuesday, US District Judge Ronnie L. White ordered the case stayed based on Sweeney’s death, court filings show.

While officials await the medical examiner’s analysis of Sweeney’s death, Holland’s alleged suicide is also coming under renewed scrutiny.

“This case was ruled a Suicide by the Medical Examiner’s office long before we got involved…At the end of our investigation, like every other death investigation, we never made a determination of the manner of death. This decision is solely the responsibility of the Medical Examiner,” Panus told The Post about the district’s investigation.

“At this point, the case is still classified as a suspicious death and is still active. It is the responsibility of the prosecutor’s office to decide whether further action is necessary or if any criminal charges will be filed,” he added.

“If the investigation rules [Sweeney] [died] homicide, his death should be fully investigated as such, and I pray the people responsible are held accountable,” Creve Coeur Police Chief Jeff Hartman – who first saw Holland’s death – told Fox News Digital.

“I also expect increased scrutiny of the Creve Coeur case as a result. However, we have not received a decision on the cause of Sarah’s death,” he said.

Daus, meanwhile, was spotted out and about in his neighborhood on January 24, the outlet reported.

He has not been arrested or charged in connection with any of the cases.

BFF and Dr. Harry could not immediately be reached for comment.
