Senator Mitt Romney said he would vote Democrat over former President Trump or businessman Vivek Ramaswamy in a potential 2024 general election matchup.
“I would be happy to support almost any Republican, maybe not Vivek, but the others who are running will be accepted by me and I will be happy to vote for them,” Romney told CBS news host Norah O’Donnell in a clip that has resurfaced online Saturday.
“I’m also happy to vote for some Democrats. I mean, it’s going to be an improvement over, in my opinion, over Donald Trump and maybe even over Joe Biden,” Romney added, without specifying which Democrat he had in mind.
The remarks were originally posted a month ago as part of a lengthy discussion between Romney and O’Donnell about a new book about the senator.

“Look, I like President Biden. You know, I find him very charming and interesting. There are some places where I agree with him, but most where I disagree with him. I think he’s made a lot of bad mistakes, but I’d like to see someone else run,” Romney said.
Although Romney is the GOP senator from Utah and the party’s former 2012 presidential nominee, he has fallen out with much of the Republican base — and complained to O’Donnell about how “populist” the party is.
The clip immediately began circulating among pro-Trump die-hards on X, who insisted Trump and Ramaswamy should accept the criticism.

“No wonder,” snapped Ramasweamy in the post he then pinned to the top of his X profile.
Conservative commentator Monica Crowley blast the senator against X as a “uniparty loser” and said he was the uncle of Republican National Committee Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel — who also faced heat from the base over the party’s poor performance in several election cycles under his leadership.
