Kay Hansen’s Troubled Past

Former UFC and current Invicta FC fighter Kay Hansen recently opened up in her new documentary, where she revealed that she was allegedly raped and sexually assaulted by her father as a teenager, which led to her involvement in MMA fighting.
“This documentary is a big step for me, not necessarily as a fighter, but as a human being,” Hansen stated on social media. “My successes and struggles have all been in the public eye over the years, but everyone has a story behind the scenes. I was raped / [sexually assaulted] by my father for many years. Fighting [and] training is my escape and the only form of reality I have no control over.”
The previous year, Hansen revealed that she had struggled with an eating disorder, which forced her to pull out of a scheduled fight with Jasmine Jasudavicius at UFC 270. In the interview, she said she was “sexually assaulted and raped by family members from the age of 16 to 19 ” but never named his father as an abuser.
“I never spoke about the abuse I suffered because of the possible repercussions,” Hansen later admitted. “I tell my story not to ‘help people get to know me,’ but to use the platform my sport gives me to inspire someone who is, or has been, in a similar situation. Sexual abuse is all too common but is often swept under the rug. You don’t have to go through this alone. You deserve peace and justice. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.”
He added, “I’m lucky to have made it and have the opportunity to create and rewrite my own story and fix what I didn’t break. I’m excited about how this documentary was approached and put together. Thank you to everyone involved.”
