Mohan Joshi was born on Tuesday, September 4, 1945 (age 78 years; in 2023), in Bangalore (Kingdom of Mysore, British India). His zodiac sign is Virgo. After completing his schooling from Pune, he joined Maharashtra’s Brihan College of Commerce, Pune to complete his studies in commerce.

Mohan Sirish Joshi or Mohan Joshi was born in a lower middle class family in Bangalore. His father worked in the Indian Army. His mother’s name is Maher Joshi who hails from Nagpur. Mohan has two brothers. He married at a young age. His wife’s name is Jyoti Joshi, and the couple is blessed with a son, Rohan Joshi.
Career
In 1969, he started acting in theater plays in Pune. He gained attention through the theater play ‘Kuryat Sada Tingalam.’
He has acted in more than 8000 stage shows and 30 theater plays. Some of his popular theater plays are Aasu Ani Hasu, Gadvach Lagna, God Gulabi, Goshta Janmantarichi, Kalam 302, Mi Revati Deshpande, Tarun Turk Mhatare Ark, Double Cross and Aaranyak.
He made his film debut with the Marathi film ‘Ek Dav Bhutacha’ in 1983.
He has acted in more than 70 Marathi films including Sawat Majhi Ladki (1993), Tu Tithe Mee (1998), Gharabaher (1999), Not Only Mrs Raut (2003), Deool Band (2015), Mulshi Pattern (2018), and 66 Sadashiv (2019).
In 1993, he was discovered by the Adhikari Brothers, Gautam Adhikari and Makrand Adhikari, and they offered him to act in the Bollywood film ‘Bhookamp.’
He played the villain ‘Gangster Daya Patil’ in the film. He gained immense popularity with this role, and later, he got many offers from Bollywood to play villains.
He has acted in more than 350 Hindi films, and in most of the films, he plays villains. Some of his Bollywood films are Gaddaar (1995), Yeshwant (1997), Ishq (1997), Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999), Gangaajal (2003), Baghban (2003), and Yeh Hai India (2017).

Apart from working in theater and films, she appeared in various Marathi and Hindi TV serials. In 2009, he debuted in the Marathi TV series ‘Agnihotra.’ Later, she appeared in many popular Marathi TV series including Bhairoba (2010), Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta (2012), Chala Hawa Yeu Dya (2015), and Kahe Diya Pardes (2016).
She acted in several Hindi TV series including Jamuniya (2010), Dhoondh Legi Manzil Humein (2010), and Daadi Amma Daadi Amma Maan Jao (2020).
Controversy
In 2013, Mohan Joshi and actor Chetan Dalvi were beaten up by Nashik locals for misbehaving after getting drunk. The next day from this whole scene, Mohan Joshi resigned from the post of President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad.
Facts/Trivia
- He was born in Bangalore and lived there for 7 years. He then moved to Pune and completed his studies.
- After completing his studies, he went on to act in theater plays and started a job at the Kirloskar Group in Pune, simultaneously. Later, he quit his job and started his own transport company and worked as a truck driver for almost eight years. Once, one of the cars of his transport company had an accident, he was disturbed by it and decided to close the business.
- In 1987, he moved to Mumbai to make his career in acting.
- In 1999, he received the ‘National Award’ for the Marathi film Gharabaher (special mention).
- In 2003, he was appointed as the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad. He left the post in 2011 and was re-elected in 2013.
- In 2017, he received the ‘Vishnudas Bhave Award’ for his contribution to Indian theatre, which consists of a trophy, citation and a cash price of Rs 25000.

- In an interview, when asked about working in Bollywood, he said,
I have stopped working in Hindi films. Bollywood is full of cronies these days. Too many newbies are acting in Hindi films. There are so many groups and camps. There is no place there for an actor like me who does not belong to any group. After all, nowadays even heroes play villains, so there is no work for us. I have acted in many Bhojpuri films. I think the language is very sweet, and would love to work in Bhojpuri films.”
