Career
Pretelini only received public notice because of his relationship with Mexico’s 57th President, Enrique Pena Nieto. He served as governor of the State of Mexico from 2005 to 2011 and launched his presidential campaign just days after leaving office as governor. He is a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the country’s main political party, which ruled Mexico for 71 years until it was overthrown by the National Action Party (PAN) in 2000. Since the PRI’s rule was marred by corruption, Nieto’s victory in 2012, which represented the emergence re-establishment of the PRI after a 12-year sabbatical, was greeted with massive demonstrations across the country.
The newly elected president, on the other hand, assured voters that his administration would be more democratic, contemporary, and open to criticism. Pea Nieto, who has been interested in politics since childhood, entered politics shortly before becoming a lawyer.
