More than 100 guns stolen in Michigan after store manager is forced to reveal alarm code

More than 100 guns were stolen from a store in southwest Michigan after the manager was held outside his home and forced to reveal how to disable the alarm, authorities said Tuesday.

All but one of the guns were recovered and two men were arrested Friday, a day after the brazen robbery at the Dunham Games, US Attorney Mark Totten said.

“Just look at the firepower on this table,” Jim Deir, head of the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Michigan, told reporters.

“There are over $100,000 guns here. … My experience: These people are headed for the streets. This is for quick sales, quick money,” Deir said.

The two men, who are brothers, are accused of targeting a Dunham near Benton Harbor, 100 miles east of Chicago.

A store manager told investigators he was taken Thursday night, blindfolded and placed in the backseat of a car, federal agent Mallorie Campbell said in a court filing.

“One of the subjects held a gun to her head and told her to reveal the passcode to the store’s alarm,” Campbell wrote.

Store video shows a man then disable the alarm system and fill two coolers with 123 handguns, Campbell said.

Investigators got the suspect’s name after he tried to transfer money from the manager’s bank account with the cash app, the agent said.

The complaint charged the two men with four felonies, including theft of a firearm.

Campbell said they acknowledged their roles during interviews with investigators.

Totten declined to provide additional details about Dunham’s manager, though he said anyone facing similar threats “probably has to imagine if they’re going to get out of here alive.”

He also said there is too much gun violence in Michigan and across the US.

“What happened at Dunham’s Sports is an interesting example of what is driving this crisis,” Totten said.
