MSNBC adviser Jonathan Capehart fought back tears and had to remove tissues during a segment on the three-year anniversary of the Capitol storming on January 6, 2021.
Capehart was interviewing former Capitol Police officer Michael Fanone, who wrote a book about Capitol abuses, when he became overcome with emotion.
“Michael Fanone, I’ll try to get through this – um, thank you for what you did three years ago today,” Capeheart said, choking up.
“Please tell me what you think of this third anniversary.”
Fanone was one of the officials in the Capitol that day and eventually retired after the riot. He famously gave evidence to the House Select Committee since it was defunct on January 6.

Back in February of last year, a California man pleaded not guilty to assaulting her during the riot.
“I think it’s an effort to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t hold the presidency in 2024,” Fanone told MSNBC. “We all know what he looks like, he’s told us a lot.”
Fanone previously praised President Biden for using his bully pulpit to deliver “some fiery speeches” regarding events at the Capitol on January 6 and coinciding with efforts to derail the 2020 election.

Biden delivered an impassioned speech near Valley Forge, a key Revolutionary War site, on January 5 to mark the anniversary of the riot and warn of the continuing threat to US democracy.
His statement comes as the legal case against the contestant continues to grow and develop.
Last Friday, the DC Court of Appeals ruled that individuals who were illegally in the Capitol during riots could be convicted even if they peacefully observed the riots.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice continues to prosecute the case against the perpetrators of the riot. More than 1,200 have been charged, and at least 718 have pleaded guilty, while nearly 140 have been found guilty of their actions on that fateful day.
Additionally, there is pending litigation over whether former President Donald Trump can be allowed to appear on primary ballots in key states regarding his own actions related to January 6, 2021.
Last week, the US Supreme Court agreed to entertain Trump’s challenge to his disqualification from the Colorado primary. For now, he is allowed to remain on the ballot amid the challenge.
Attorneys for the 2024 GOP front-runner have also filed a formal appeal of a Dec. 28 decision by Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, to bar him from the state’s March 5 primary ballot.
