An Indiana homicide suspect told police he stabbed his girlfriend to death because she “came at him with a knife” for cutting an onion the wrong way.
Charles Michael Calvert, 60, called 911 from his home in Grabill late Saturday to say that Marcia Linsky was “no longer with us,” according to court documents.
“We were arguing, we both had knives and he came at me,” she told the dispatcher — suggesting she expected to “spend the night in jail,” according to the probable cause affidavit.
Linsky was found lying in a pool of blood with large gashes to his head and neck and defensive wounds to his hands, including a nearly severed right thumb, the document said.
After being handcuffed, Calvert “stated that he was cutting onions and [Linksy] stated that he did not do it properly,” the affidavit said of the statement to police.
“The defendant stated the victim pushed a crock pot at him and attacked him with a knife,” the affidavit said, citing Calvert as telling officers he “became defensive.”

Police saw “a broken crock pot, several bloody kitchen knives, and food items strewn about” — but “did not see chopped onions anywhere in the kitchen,” the affidavit said.
Responding officers reported finding the scene “appeared to be staged.”
They also believe that Calvert had showered before calling police and “had no sense of urgency whatsoever” during his 911 call, in which the 60-year-old said he was “old enough to know better but young” when asked his age.

There was no indication that Calvert attempted to provide assistance to Linsky, according to the document.
He was arrested on a charge of murder and jailed without bond, records show.
