Naba Kishore Das is an Indian politician who retained the assembly seat from Jharsuguda constituency three times in a row, namely, 2009, 2014, and 2019. On 29 January 2023, while on his way to an event, Kishore was shot multiple times by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gopal Das at Brajrajnagar Gandhi Chowk in Jharsuguda district, Odisha. After suffering for several hours due to gunshot injuries, he breathed his last at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Naba Kisore Das was born on Sunday, 7 January 1962 (age 61 years; at time of death) at Mirgamunda, Maneswar Block, Sambalpur District, Odisha. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. Career
While attending Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Sambalpur, Kishore Das developed an interest in politics and joined the Students Federation of India (SFI) party. He was elected president of the student union at his college. Later, he left the SFI party and joined the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) and held the post of vice-president of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) Odisha party.

Kishore contested from Jharsuguda constituency on an Indian National Congress party ticket and defeated Biju Janata Dal party candidate Kishore Kumar Mohanty by a margin of 22,516 votes.
Assembly Election 2014
Kishore was re-elected to the Jharsuguda Assembly seat as the Indian National Congress candidate by defeating Biju Janata Dal party candidate Kishore Kumar Mohanty by a margin of 11,563 votes.
2019 state assembly election
Kishore Das resigned from the Indian National Congress (INC) party on 16 January 2019 and joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party. He contested from Jharsuguda constituency and defeated Dinesh Kumar Jain, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, by a margin of 45699 votes. Kishore was sworn in as the health and family welfare minister on 29 May 2019 in the Naveen Patnaik government.
Controversy
Accused of watching pornographic clips in the assembly house
On 14 December 2015, during the Odhisa Assembly session, Naba Kishore Das was caught watching obscene content on his mobile phone by television cameramen. On 15 December 2015, he was accused of demeaning the assembly and was eventually suspended from the Odisha Assembly for a week. On the other hand, Naba Kishore claimed the allegations as baseless and stated that while surfing the internet, a page of adult content accidentally appeared on his phone screen. He said,
I was browsing my phone when by mistake I touched the YouTube app and this clip popped up. Video is on YouTube. The company sent it and I didn’t choose it on purpose.”
In December 2018, due to lack of evidence to substantiate the charges, Kishore was acquitted of the charges against him.

Death
On January 29, 2023, Kishore, while on his way to inaugurate the party office in Brajrajnagar, Jharsuguda district, Odisha, was shot by a policeman of the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Gopal Das. As Kishore got out of his car to meet his supporters near Gandhi Chowk, Gopal fired at him several times with his service pistol. Kishore, who sustained a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest, was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was given urgent treatment. After sustaining his injuries for several hours, Kishore was declared brought dead by hospital officials. A statement released by Apollo Hospitals, stating the reason behind his death, read,
During the operation, it was found that a bullet had entered and exited the body, injuring the heart and left lung and causing massive internal bleeding and injuries. The injury was repaired, and steps were taken to improve the pumping of the heart. He was given immediate treatment in the ICU. But despite best efforts, he could not be revived and died from his injuries.”

However, Gopal’s motive behind Kishore’s murder was not revealed by the police officials. Kishore Das was cremated with full state honors on January 30, 2023 at Kherual village near Jharsuguda district in Odisha.

I heard the news, so what can I say. How can I say why he took this step? I haven’t spoken to him since morning. He was talking to my daughter on a video call around 11am today, but he suddenly disconnected. His mental condition is not good and he is taking medicine for the same. He has been taking medicine for the past 8 years. He behaved well after taking the medicine.”
However, according to several media sources, it is reported that Gopal Das suffers from bipolar disorder, a medical health condition, which causes significant changes in a person’s mood, energy level and behavior.
