Namita, after reaching adolescence, wants to change into a woman; however, his parents were against his decision. At the age of thirteen, she underwent her first surgery to remove extra breast fat. In an interview, he said,
During my 10th class, I experienced some physical changes in myself. My breasts started to grow. Since my uncle is a doctor, my parents asked him to surgically remove my breasts. Within 3 months, my breasts started growing again.”
Then, when he was 16, he was sent to a mental rehabilitation center for six months. After six months in rehab, she was brought home to check for any changes but her feminine behavior was becoming more pronounced. He was then, at the age of seventeen, sent to a different rehabilitation center for drug addicts. A year later, he was sent to another rehabilitation, which offered him to change his identity; however, Namita managed to escape from the rehabilitation center. Subsequently, in 2010, she raised a complaint against her parents in the Madras High Court, where the court ruled for legal separation from her parents. In an interview, she described her transformation journey and said,
With the help of SAHODARAN (a non-profit LGBTQ organization), my parents were counseled and educated about the existence of transgender people in society, which convinced my father to accept me, until finally my parents changed their minds. After three months of being apart, I decided to transition to a woman and live as a woman full time. I can afford it because of my job and my friends because I work for SAHODARAN, and I also used to dance on stage, which gives me a smaller income. This money helped me turn into a woman at a very young age. After my transition, my parents did not accept me for two months but again after talking to SAHODARAN, my parents accepted me as a woman.”

Modeling
Namita Marimuthu began her career as a model and began participating in small-scale pageants for trans-women in her town. In 2015, she participated in the Miss Kovagam competition held in Villupuram. In 2018, she won the title of Miss Trans Queen, India. In 2019, she competed in Miss Trans Star International 2019 in Barcelona, where she won the international titles of Miss Popular and Miss Public Favorite.
In June 2022, she participated in Miss International Queen, the world’s largest beauty pageant for transgender women in Thailand. In an interview, she talked about her modeling career and said,
I have exceeded 100kg. One day I felt I had to do something, and started a strict diet and exercise regime, and lost weight. Then the opportunity to enter Miss Chennai (for transwomen) came up. I tried it, and won. I also won the Miss Pondicherry title. My dream is to win the Miss Transqueen India pageant next year, and then represent the country in international competitions.”

In 2020, Namita Marimuthu made her acting debut with the Tollywood film Naadodigal 2 where she played the role of Priya. In an interview, he talked about the entertainment industry and said,
We were poorly portrayed in the media and movies until recently. We are used to comic relief. However, after Sarath Kumar’s Kanchana, there has been a slight change in the way people see us—as real people with real feelings.”

In 2021, he appeared as a contestant in Tamil Big Boss 5 which aired on Star Vijay and Disney+ Hotstar. However, he dropped out of the show due to some medical emergencies.

To learn more about my problem, I started talking to people like me and learning about my problem. During family functions, I dress like a girl. Although my parents did not beat me directly, I was beaten by my relatives. Meanwhile, I ran away from my home 4 times on various occasions but returned because of fear for safety. I was tracked down by a detective hired by my parents. Once, I wore my mother’s saree and danced at a function in the transgender community. After I got home, I was beaten black and blue. My parents threatened to kill me if I didn’t change my behavior.”
