Nancy started skating when she was young. She rose to national prominence after placing fourth in the junior division at the 1987 US Figure Skating Championships. The following season, she made her senior debut. Her national rise continued when she placed third at the 1991 US Figure Skating Championships. She qualified for the World Figure Skating Championships in 1991, where she won bronze.
