South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace may have broken House rules by subtly soliciting donations at the Capitol complex — and then doubling down on her “principled stance.”
Mace, 45, defended his fundraising efforts to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in an interview Wednesday, before appearing to ask Fox Business viewers for money.
“You really I’m fundraising right now because the establishment is coming after me for taking a principled stand,” Mace told Fox Business Network.
The California representative then proceeded to put up his website and ask for donations.
“If your audience wants to help, they can go to NancyMace.org. I will not be ashamed to do this. Kevin broke many promises,” he added.
Mace later posted a video of the exchange to his X, formerly a Twitter account, more pointedly urging his fans to “join today.”

“The House building, and the rooms and offices of the House…shall not be used for the conduct of political campaigns or activities,” the shortened version of the House Ethics Manual says.
Fellow South Carolinian, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, whom Mace unsuccessfully nominated in 2014, was reprimanded by the Senate Select Committee on Ethics for similar violations earlier this year.
Graham conducted a cable news interview on November 30 of last year and attempted to solicit donations for Georgia GOP Senate challenger Herschel Walker while in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Mace was one of eight House Republicans who championed a motion to oust McCarthy Tuesday.
She blamed him for failing to present his legislation on “women’s issues” and accused him of lying.
McCarthy disputed the allegations and claimed that one of his staffers personally told him that the California lawmaker had not broken any of his promises.
The former speaker, who became the first in US history to be ousted through a motion to vacate the seat, has raised funds for Mace in the past.
“He’s passionate because he’s passionate about your district,” @GOPLeader Kevin McCarthy said of #SC01 US Representative Nancy Mace. He faces a 2022 midterm primary challenge from Trump-supporting Katie Arrington who cut ties with the so-called establishment.
But now that Mace is dancing on McCarthy’s political grave, many Republicans in the House are outraged.
“This is about it,” Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) fumed at CBS as he pointed to his phone showing the fundraising effort. “It’s about increasing campaign contributions.”
“I think [it] should be illegal — I think it’s disgusting and some of the swampiest behavior you can have.

Graves’ anger was mainly directed at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) led the effort to unseat McCarthy. He enthusiastically slammed the fundraiser on the House floor on Tuesday.
But Mace has not been shy about his fundraising, posting requests on social media and stressing that the “organisation” was out to get revenge on him.
The Post contacted a Mace spokesperson for comment.
Mace’s coastal inland district in the Palmetto State could be reconfigured amid a redistricting case pending before the Supreme Court.
