Nancy Meyers Reveals What She Knows Regarding Fate Of Her Upcoming Film

Wake up, beach grandmas: Nancy Meyers just posted about her latest movie on Instagram!

Legendary romantic comedy mastermind, known for films like “Father Of The Bride” (1991), “The Holiday.” “Something’s Gotta Give,” and “The Parent Trap” (1998) among others, received some news about his latest film earlier this week.

Meyers’ new film, called “Paris Paramount,” was previously set to be distributed by Netflix. However, the streaming service is no longer involved with the film. The reason is reportedly due to budget concerns.

On Saturday, Meyers addressed the uncertainty surrounding “Paris Paramount,” which has some big names involved, in an Instagram post. The writer and director revealed what information he knew about the fate of the film.

For anyone who follows streaming service news, it’s no secret that Netflix has had a rough year. Headlines about the stream from the past year have revolved around layoffs, cancellations of hit shows and password-sharing problems.

The Hollywood Reporter details Meyers reportedly couldn’t agree with Netflix on the film’s budget. The outlet also shared Meyers was reportedly seeking “at least” $150 million for the budget.

However, Netflix reportedly capped the allocated budget at $130 million.

“Paris Paramount” is set to be Meyers’ first directorial film since 2015. Meyers’ last directorial film was “The Intern” starring Anne Hathaway.

THR also reports Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson, and Michael Fassbender are tentatively attached to the film, which Meyers will also write and produce, as well as direct.

The news generated heaps of reactions online.

Netflix’s decision dominated the Twitter conversation, with many users weighing in.

Reporter Courtney Howard tweeted, “Netflix dragged their feet to approve the budget for a Nancy Meyers feature, having given male directors like Martin Scorsese ($140m) & Michael Bay ($150m) free reign, says a lot about who they do & doesn’t consider auteurs. Give this woman her luxury prestige romcom.”

Writer Joe Reid tweeted“Oh so you’re going to save Silicon Valley’s fat cats but not humble Nancy Meyers OKAY, COOL COUNTRY.”

Could ‘Paris Paramount’ Find a New Home?

…Maybe!

On March 16, Deadline reported Warner Brothers might pick up the film; the studio is reportedly in “early discussions” to attach itself to the film.

The outlet also mentioned how Warner Brothers and Meyers had a “strong relationship” together, while they were working on “The Intern.”

Meyers did his part to curb curiosity about the film.

Posting a quote from Ernst Lubitsch, the director went into more detail in the caption.

“There is a lot written about my new film. [dead face and star emojis] Here’s one thing I can easily explain- and that’s the title- PARIS PARAMOUNT. It’s a quote from the brilliant and elegant comedy director (dare I say romantic comedy creator) Ernst Lubitsch. This film is about a group of people who make films and the wonder and mystery of what we do. As usual, Lubitsch said it best.”

As of this writing, Warner Brothers has yet to confirm its involvement with the film.
