Natalee Holloway’s brother Matt says he does not believe Joran van der Sloot’s apology

Natalee Holloway’s sister says she doesn’t believe Joran van der Sloot’s apology for killing her sister, saying the self-confessed killer has “been a liar his whole life.”

Speaking outside the Alabama courthouse where van der Sloot finally explained what happened the night Holloway died in 2005, Matt Holloway called the Dutchman a “psychopathic liar.”

“I personally don’t,” Matt said when asked by a reporter for Court TV if he believed van der Sloot’s apology and his claim that he is now a born-again Christian.

“He’s been a liar all his life – that’s what he is, a psychopathic liar, so I take it for granted.”

“I mean, I believe his confession — that’s what we’ve been waiting for so long: for him to admit it,” Matt continued, even as he said, “all the confessions he’s made, he’s done it all for himself.

“And he forgot about one thing – and that was me,” Matt warned. “So he’ll see me again when he thinks he’s a free man.”

Matt’s statement echoed that of his father, David, who said in a victim impact statement that he also did not believe van der Sloot regretted what he had done.

“Despite everything he’s done to us, he’s not sorry for what he’s done,” David Holloway said in a statement. “He expressed no regret, remorse, or compassion … He was a bad man.”

Van der Sloot admitted on Wednesday that he crushed 18-year-old Natalee’s head with a flint and dragged her body into the sea when she rejected his sexual urges during a school trip to Aruba in 2005.

He said he then went home to watch porn afterwards, according to family statements made in court.

The admission was made as part of a plea deal he made with US prosecutors in the case of blackmail and defrauding the Holloway family.

He pleaded guilty to trying to sell information about where Natalee’s body was buried to her mother, Beth, in exchange for $250,000. He then leads the family down a series of dead ends before fleeing to Peru.

Once there he killed another young woman, Stephany Flores, on the fifth anniversary of Natalee’s death in 2010. He is currently serving a 28-year sentence in Peru for the murder and will now be returned to prison there.

In 2021, he was convicted of trafficking cocaine into prison and sentenced to an additional 18 years, according to a sentencing memorandum obtained by The Post.

When she pleaded guilty Wednesday, Holloway’s family initially thought van der Sloot was telling another lie to save herself, Natalee’s younger sister Kaitlyn told The Post.

“But the polygraph test showed he was telling the truth,” he said. “We are happy that there is closure. Now we have an answer to what happened.”

In his letter to the judge, David Holloway said Natalee had prepared to attend the University of Alabama and planned to become a doctor.

“We have been robbed of a promising future together with our beautiful and talented Natalee. And now we know who took that future from us,” he said.

Kaitlyn said that although she is too young to remember the memories of her sister, it hurts to think about what Natalee could have accomplished if she had lived.

“I know he will be an amazing role model in my life,” she said. “Over the years, I’ve heard so many wonderful things about him and I really wish I could grow up and be around him.

“It hurts to know we have gone through life missing family members. Matt, Natalee’s brother, has two children and the two little ones will never know their aunt. It hurts a lot because we know he’s going to be great.”
