Natalee Holloway’s family calls ‘BS’ on Joran van der Sloot’s apology: ‘Made me feel sick inside’

After 18 years of suffering, three arrests and sickening taunts that promised to reveal Natalee Holloway’s final resting place, her killer finally confessed.

Joran van der Sloot has finally explained what happened the night Holloway died in 2005, admitting she rejected his sexual advances until he crushed her head with a flint and dragged her body into the sea.

Natalee’s younger sister, Kaitlyn Holloway, told The Post she sat with her family in the courtroom about 20 feet from van der Sloot in the Alabama courthouse as he was sentenced in the federal case related to Natalee’s death.

As part of the proceedings, the killer issued an apology and said he was a born-again Christian.

“He’s a monster and even looking at him makes me sick to my core,” Kaitlyn said.

“He really apologized and he said something with the words that he gave himself to God and that he was a Christian — that he was a changed person. I really don’t think that’s true.

“I don’t think it’s a sincere apology considering all the damage he’s done. I think it’s BS.”

Kaitlyn, 20, was just two-and-a-half years old when her older sister Natalee disappeared at the age of 18 in 2005 while she was on a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba.

Kaitlyn said facing her sister’s killer for the first time in court Wednesday was traumatic and nerve-wracking after years of wondering if the case would ever be solved.

Kaitlyn said van der Sloot avoided her gaze as she sat in court in an orange jumpsuit with hand and ankle shackles.

“I know he’s going to be in my nightmares tonight,” he said of van der Sloot.

Kaitlyn is the daughter of Natalee’s father, David, and his second wife, Robin. David divorced Natalee’s mother, Beth Holloway, in 1993.

David gave a victim impact statement to the court also saying he did not believe van der Sloot’s apology.

“Despite everything he’s done to us, he’s not sorry for what he’s done,” David Holloway said in a statement. “He expressed no regret, remorse, or compassion … He was a bad man.”

The family was briefed several days ago about van der Sloot’s confession, in which he not only admitted to the brutal and dishonorable murder, but said he went home to watch porn afterwards, according to a statement the family made on Wednesday.

Van der Sloot’s confession was part of a plea deal he made with US prosecutors in the case of blackmail and defrauding the Holloway family. He pleaded guilty to trying to sell information about where Natalee’s body was buried to Beth Holloway in exchange for $250,000. He then leads the family down a series of dead ends before fleeing to Peru.

Once there he killed another young woman, Stephany Flores, on the fifth anniversary of Natalee’s death in 2010. He is currently serving a 28-year sentence in Peru for the murder and will now be returned to prison there.

In 2021, he was convicted of trafficking cocaine into prison and sentenced to an additional 18 years, according to a sentencing memorandum obtained by The Post.

The family initially thought van der Sloot had told another lie with his confession in a twisted plan to save himself, Kaitlyn said.

“But the polygraph test showed he was telling the truth,” he said. “We are happy that there is closure. Now we have an answer to what happened.”

In his letter to the judge, David Holloway said Natalee had prepared to attend the University of Alabama and planned to become a doctor.

“We have been robbed of a promising future together with our beautiful and talented Natalee. And now we know who took that future from us,” he said.

Kaitlyn said that although she is too young to remember the memories of her sister, it hurts to think about what Natalee could have accomplished if she had lived.

“I know he will be an amazing role model in my life,” she said. “Over the years, I’ve heard so many wonderful things about him and I really wish I could grow up and be around him.

“It hurts to know we have gone through life missing family members. Matt, Natalee’s older brother [who has the same parents], has two children and the two little ones will never know their aunt. It hurts a lot because we know he’s going to be great.”
