Navneet Kaur Rana has worked in the Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi film industries. He broke into the entertainment industry when he appeared in several music video albums. She made her acting debut with the Kannada film ‘Darshan’ (2004) in which she played the lead role of Nandini. The film tells the story of a terrorist named Rahul who takes revenge on Nandini’s family by making her fall in love.

2014 General Election
In 2014, Navneet Rana, on a ticket from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), contested the Amravati Lok Sabha seat, but he lost the election. Shiv Sena candidate Anandrao Adsul won the seat with a margin of 1,37,932 votes.

General Election 2019
In 2019, Navneet Rana, as an independent candidate, contested and won the Amravati Lok Sabha seat defeating Shiv Sena candidate Anandrao Adsul by 36,951 votes. From 13 September 2019 to 13 September 2020, he served as a Member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture. On September 13, 2020, he became a Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is also a Member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Controversy
Abused by Anandrao Adsul
In 2014, Navneet Rana registered a complaint at Gadge Nagar Police Station, Amravati, against Anandrao Adsul (of Shiv Sena) for abusing and threatening her in the name of caste and character. The disruption started when it became clear that Navneet would contest against Adsul in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on a ticket from the NCP.
Caste Certificate Issue
On 8 June 2021, the Bombay High Court canceled the caste certificate issued to Navneet Rana, arguing that it was obtained fraudulently using forged documents. SC Rana’s certificate states that he is a member of the ‘Mochi’ (shoemaker) community. The HC passed its order on a petition filed by Anandrao Adsule seeking cancellation of a caste certificate dated August 30, 2013 issued by the Deputy Collector of Mumbai, identifying Rana as belonging to the ‘Mochi’ caste. The petition against him alleges that he hails from Punjab and belongs to the Labana caste. The court noted that the original birth certificate did not mention the ‘Mochi’ caste. HC said,
In our view, there are two sets of documents produced by respondent no.3 (Navneet Rana) which contradict each other before the scrutiny committee. Respondent no.3 has claimed to be ‘Sikh Chamar’ as well as ‘Ravidasiya Mochi’”
Hence, the HC imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him. The decision comes with serious implications as Navneet is a Member of Parliament from Amravati Lok Sabha constituency, which is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled castes. On 17 June 2021, Navneet Rana filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Bombay High Court which revoked his caste certificate.
Arrested In Hanuman Chalisa Row
On 23 April 2022, Mumbai Police arrested her, along with her husband MLA Ravi Rana, after she made a call to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai. The politician couple was sent to judicial custody for 14 days after the Mumbai Police charged them with sedition. Earlier, Ravi and Navneet had announced that they would recite the Hanuman Chalisa in public if the mosque continued to use loudspeakers for Azaan and other announcements. Subsequently, the couple was punished under IPC section 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and committing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), and section 135 Mumbai Police Act (violation of police prohibitory orders). Later, the police also added IPC Section 124-A (sedition) in the case against them. The City Civil and Sessions Court granted bail to the couple on May 4, 2022 on a bond of Rs. 50,000 each and ordered them not to speak to the media about the case.

In November 2022, Navneet Rana and her father received a non-bailable warrant from a Mumbai court in connection with the fake caste certificate case. Rana and his father allegedly forged their caste certificates to make them contest elections from seats reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.

- In 2019, MLA Navneet’s husband Ravi Rana had a physical altercation with Amravati Shiv Sena district chief Dinesh Boob while attending an event at Madhuban Vrudhashram’s elderly home, Amravati.
