Nayanmoni Saikia was born on Wednesday, 21 September 1988 (age 34 years; in 2022) in Tengabari Village, Golaghat, Assam. His zodiac sign is Virgo. Soon after completing his school education, he joined Golaghat College of Commerce in Assam to pursue his degree. Nayanmoni Saikia belongs to a farming family in Assam. In 2001, SAI Golaghat center selected him for weightlifting through a talent search programme. The promoter of weightlifting in Assam, Ajay Chetia, mentioned in an interview with a media house that Nayanmoni Saikia started representing Assam in Lawn Bowls in 2007. He said,
Lawn Bowls was unheard of in the state before 2007. When Nayanmoni saw the sport, it changed his life. He joined the sport that year itself and since then has represented Assam and India many times.”

Career
Grass Bowl
Nayanmoni Saikia participated in the National Games in individual and team events in 2011 and won the gold medal. The following year, she participated in the Asian Lawn Bowling Championships in the women’s under-25 division and won the gold medal.

In 2014, she represented India in the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, SCO and competed in the Women’s Triples and Women’s Singles Lawn Bowling Championships, where she placed 3rd in Pool in both events. Nayanmoni Saikia participated in the National Lawn Bowling tournament held in Kerala, India in 2015 and won the gold medal.

In 2018, he participated in the Commonwealth Games organized in Gold Coast, Queensland. In 2020, he represented India in the South Asian Games and bagged a medal and cash reward for the same by the Government of India.

In the same year, he participated in the third Indian Khelo Youth Games organized in Guwahati, Assam and won the Lawn Bowls event.

On 2 August 2022, Nayanmoni Saikia participated in the commonwealth games in England along with her teammates Lovely Choubey, Pinki Singh and Rupa Rani Tirkey and clinched the gold medal after winning the final Lawn Bowls event against the South African team. They entered the Lawn Bowls final after defeating New Zealand in the semi-final on 1 August 2022.

- In a media interview, Nayanmoni Saikia’s husband revealed that he switched from weightlifting to Lawn Bowls after he suffered a severe leg injury. He added in the same discussion that his performance in weightlifting began to decline after this injury and he soon turned to Lawn Bowls, which became his passion later. He said,
Nayanmoni was a very dedicated weightlifter before, her whole life revolved around sports. But a leg injury meant his form continued to decline until he found the grass bowl. That became his passion after that. He has faced many challenges in his life, but he has never sacrificed the game.”
