After the actor’s death, his son Peter McCallum shared a statement in which he paid tribute to his late father.

He and his youngest grandson, Whit, 9, can often be found in the corner of the room at family parties having deep philosophical conversations.
Peter continued, “He was a true Renaissance man – he was fascinated by science and culture and would turn that passion into knowledge. “Since day one, it has been an honor to work with him and he has never let us down. He is, simply put, a legend. He is also family and will be greatly missed,” both concluded.
