Ne-Yo Backtracks On Apology To LGBTQ Community For Gender Identity Comments

Ne-Yo seems to be debunking the apology that appeared on his Twitter page!

The singer-songwriter and actress appears to have apologized for her earlier remarks. He raised doubts about parents supporting minors who identify as a gender different from the gender they were assigned at birth. However, just hours after the apology was made public, Ne-Yo claimed that it was his publicist who issued the statement, not him.

Ne-Yo Plans To Be More Educated But Doesn’t Apologize For Having An Opinion

Over the weekend, Ne-Yo — real name Shaffer Chimere Smith — appeared on VladTV, where he slammed parents who allow their children to make “life-changing decisions” through gender transition. At the time, he stated:

“I think parents have almost forgotten what the role of parents is. If your son comes to you and says, ‘Dad, I want to be a girl.’ And you just let him rock with that? He is five. If you let this five-year-old boy decide to eat candy all day, he will. When is it a good idea to let a five-year-old, let a six-year-old, let a 12-year-old make life-changing decisions for themselves? When did that happen? I do not understand.”

Once the YouTube upload went viral, the “Because of You” singer came under fire for her comments, and she quickly took to X —formerly Twitter — to express her “deepest apologies”.

“After reflection, I would like to express my deepest apologies to anyone I may have offended with my comments on parenting and gender identity. I have always been an advocate for love and inclusion in the LGBTQI+ community, so I understand how my comments could be interpreted as insensitive and offensive,” statement started

Ne-Yo later admitted that he plans to “better educate himself” on the topic so he can “approach future conversations with more empathy” because he knows that “gender is nuanced.” He concluded by writing, “At the end of the day, I lead with love and support freedom of speech and the pursuit of happiness for all.”

Among the thousands of responses received is this one demanded“Ne-Yo is just showing his cowardice,” and another read, “If telling the truth hurts some feelings, then go hurt some feelings. Children are being cut and sterilized. What is more important? The feelings of a madman, or a child.”

“This man made a factual statement about the sex binary. Now he is being paraded up Brokebuck Mountain and begging for forgiveness for telling the truth. Another reminder that the rainbow revolution does not tolerate ANY dissent,” a third cyber citizen said pointed out.

Amid the chaos, a closer look at Ne-Yo’s statement revealed that netizens had added a community note declaring that his publicist had shared the apology. In fact, the “Time of Our Lives” hitmaker himself posted a video on Instagram to maintain his position “from the horse’s mouth” and “not a publicity computer.” He stated in part:

“I do not apologize for having an opinion on this matter. I’m a 43 year old heterosexual man raising five boys and two girls, okay? That is my reality. If my opinion offends someone, yes, sure, I’m sorry that you were offended because that was not my intention. My intention was never to offend anyone. However, I have the right to feel what I feel. I am absolutely entitled to feel my feelings the same way you are entitled to feel yours.”

Ne-Yo’s Appearance With His Ex-Wife Sparks Reconciliation Rumors

In addition to causing a stir online, Ne-Yo recently made headlines for appearing publicly with his ex-wife, Crystal Renay, sparking speculation that they had reconciled. The Blast shared that the former couple attended the opening of their restaurant’s newest location, Johnny’s Chicken and Waffles, in June.

However, the insider, who denied the allegations, clarified that the event was purely professional and not romantic in any way. In their words, “Ne-Yo and Crystal are not back together, and they’re both at the opening of the restaurant because they’re co-owners, and that’s in their contract.”

The source further revealed that the Grammy Award winner and his ex-wife have moved on romantically with others while continuing to co-parent their three children.

Ne-Yo and Renay’s public appearance came two months after rumors surfaced that the former had fathered a child with another woman, Sade. Fans seemed to connect the dots after the Soul Train Music Award recipient shared a photo of Sade’s newborn son on social media.
