A brave Pennsylvania teenager ran into the flames Monday afternoon to save his neighbor who was trapped inside a burning house.
Curtis Lahr, 18, was called a hero after he ran barefoot to save the woman and was able to save her life with the help of other neighbors in Arang Township, Newswatch 16 reported.
“It’s like surreal, like everything at the moment, I don’t know; I just ran. I don’t wear shoes. I was just trying to help the woman,” Lahr told the local ABC affiliate station.
The quick-thinking teenager grabbed a nearby ladder and handed it to a neighbor who placed it behind a house on Lott Street where the woman was trapped on the second floor, according to the outlet.
Lahr said he could feel the heat from the fire as he handed over the ladder and saw broken glass “shooting” out of the house.
“The smell – it’s hot. I mean, at this point, like I don’t realize how smoky and hot it is in here, but it’s pretty intense when you’re close to the fire,” he said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was able to climb out of a second-floor window and down the stairs to safety.
He was covered in dark ash from the fire and was rushed to a local hospital, but is expected to be fine, his family told Newswatch.
“He was just black, and his hair was on fire,” Lahr said.

The teenager’s mother, Maria Lahr, said seeing her son run towards the fire was a scary moment but she was very proud of him.
“I’m glad no one was hurt. I’m very proud of it, and I hope someone will do it for us,” he told a local station.
The woman’s family told the news channel that the inferno started as an electrical fire in a downstairs room.
They added, the victim will be in the hospital for a few more days but overall is healthy. They said they were very grateful for the neighbor’s actions.
