Nejm, also known as Deborrah Samantha, was born in 2000 (age 23; in 2023) in Chennai. He studied in a school in Delhi. He pursued his studies in English Literature from Madras Christian College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. While he was in his first year of college, Nejm participated in the 2019 Times Fresh Face.

I never wore sleeveless growing up because I was insecure with my Keloid scars. Even when sewing my school uniform, I make sure to get it with full sleeves. I am so embarrassed to see how horrible and big this scar is. When we lived in Delhi, we attended this private school. I was in 2nd std then, I had participated in a play and my clothes exposed this scar. Damn! As if being a dark-skinned Tamil girl in a rich private school wasn’t bad enough, when the kids who used to bully me saw the scar, it became a nightmare. I remember this one girl sitting near me and going ‘EW!.”
