Friends have finally opened up about Wendy Williams’ 2021 breakdown claiming the former talk show host was on the brink of death.

In 2020, Williams was hospitalized for two blood transfusions due to his worsening alcoholism. By May 2020, a group of friends actually went to check in on him, and reportedly said he was “catatonic” and stuck in his New York City apartment.
At the time, her manager allegedly refused to call 911 even after friends, like DJ Boof showed up and expressed deep concern about her condition. But, they say she still wasn’t forced to get Williams medical help, telling her friends her hands were tied and she didn’t want to draw attention by involving the authorities.

“I don’t think he understands the extent of what’s going on,” a source told the NY Post. Adding, “I don’t think he wants to tell that he’s not well, and he certainly doesn’t want a 911 call like that [what] happened a year later,” they claimed.
As we reported, in 2021, Williams was rushed to Beth Israel hospital in New York for a mental health examination.
The new report also claims that after he was taken out of the apartment and safely in the hospital, they had the chance to enter his apartment and were shocked by what they saw.
“It was a bit of a mess. It was chaos.”

Sources close to the situation claim that the brand-name host who used to drip was not lively and chatty. He doesn’t even seem to be conscious. “He’s in his robe, it’s dirty, he’s catatonic, he’s in a very, very bad state. He’s looking at the ceiling. He’s just not responsive, but his eyes are open, but he’s definitely in a catatonic state.”
Immediately, they began to clean the house and get rid of anything that could make Williams’ life worse. “A case of alcohol, an open bottle of wine and Kettle One, was visible in the corner. We started cleaning up a lot of liquor,” the source shared.

Apparently, many friends showed frustration towards the manager and did not believe in the situation he was currently experiencing. DJ Boof reportedly stood by her side and allegedly gave her ice chips because she wasn’t dehydrated.
“He was going to die. He literally couldn’t stand,” the source claimed. “He was just lying on a blanket, and he needed 911 help, and [the manager] was like, ‘We didn’t get 911.'”
Ultimately, the deciding factor that prompted Williams to seek help was a phone call from his son Kevin Hunter Jr. and her estranged husband Kevin Hunter Sr called and begged her for help.
“Kevin and Kevin Jr. both said, ‘Please, come on, mom. Let it go [Ron and his team] come,” shared Page Six source. “Get help.”

DJ Boof Hailed As Wendy Williams’ Savior

The consensus for this situation is that Williams’ best friend, DJ Boof, is the shining light in this situation. He was the one who allegedly drove Williams to the hospital where they found him “very weak.” Williams remained under medical observation for about five days.
He shouldn’t remember anything. But one thing is for sure, “Boof is his f—–g life saver.” Another source emphasized the severity of the situation.
“If we weren’t there that day, he wouldn’t be here. He will not succeed. If it wasn’t for Kevin and Ron Clinton and his team, he wouldn’t have made it.”
Thankfully, now, Williams is doing better and even has the ability to check himself into a health facility to better help his mental health. The on-air icon is starting his own podcast which seems to be launching soon.
