A 33-year-old New York woman has been found dead at the bottom of an embankment in Rochester after she went missing early on New Year’s Day, officials said.
Jennifer Hicks, of Pittsford, New York, was last seen at about 2:30 a.m. Monday at Ziggy’s bar on Railroad Street in Rochester, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office representative Brendan Hurley told the Democrat and Chronicle.
A missing person alert was issued and her body was found Tuesday on an embankment between Scio Street and Portland Avenue during a search by the sheriff’s office and Rochester police.
There do not appear to be any signs of foul play, but an investigation is underway, officials said. The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death.
“It is an active investigation. Nothing has been ruled out because we don’t have a definitive answer as to how she died,” Hurley said, according to the Daily Mail, which reported that Hicks’ father reported her missing.

It’s unclear why Hicks was walking alone at the time of his disappearance and whether he was on his way home, but Hurley said the route along the main highway was not a common route to his place.
Former classmate Dan DeHond paid tribute to Hicks in a post on Facebook.
“We hit it off immediately because of our unique weird humor. Always felt warm and comfortable around each other,” DeHond wrote.

“He has a special place in my heart because over the past few years, he encouraged me to keep making funny/TikTok videos. We both support each other on those platforms — it’s kind of weird and isolated putting yourself out there like that,” she wrote.
“He never had to but he always did – he was always a sweetheart, and even though we never got along in person, I think we understood each other,” continued the former classmate.

“I feel bad that I can’t tell you in person how wonderful you are and how much I admire your confidence in being yourself and your great sense of humor,” DeHond added.
Hicks graduated in 2012 from Monroe Community College, where she studied health sciences, and works for Monroe Ambulance, according to her Facebook page. He went to Brighton High School.

She posted a cryptic message just a few months before her death, with a journal photo that read: “Sometimes God puts you in the ONLY places,” emphasizing the word with an underline, “because He needs you to realize that you don’t need anyone other than him. !”
In October, he wrote: “Today I embark on something unknown. Hold my drink, while I grab my flashlight.”
Rochester police and Ziggy’s bar did not immediately respond to requests for comment by The Post.
