Damar Hamlin got nostalgic when he returned to the same stadium where he suffered a heart attack earlier this year.
The comeback, which took place when the Buffalo Bills played the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium over the weekend, saw the safety spend some alone — and emotional — time at the exact scene.
Fans will recall that Hamlin had to be revived after he collapsed on the field during Week 17’s Monday Night Football game against the Bengals on January 2nd. He has established a scholarship program for Cincinnati youth to honor the ten first responders, nurses, and doctors who helped save his life.
Damar Hamlin Becomes Emotional On The Field That Changed His Life
Although Hamlin did not participate in Sunday’s game, having played just one game for the Bills this season, he was more than happy to return to Paycor Stadium. The presence seemed to offer him a sense of closure, as evidenced in footage shared by Olivia Ray, a sports reporter who covers news about the Bengals and FC Cincinnati.
In the clip, the NFL star is seen crouching on the field with his head down for over ten seconds. He then got up, phone in hand, and walked away from the scene of his heart attack.
He mainly kept his face shielded from cameras, press and other onlookers by pulling down his blue hooded Bills uniform hoodie. As the 46-second video ended, the fashion entrepreneur took her phone out of her pocket to make a call.

Then he looked up briefly, revealing what appeared to be red and swollen eyes, before proceeding to show the woman on his Facetime screen her surroundings. Ray captioned the heartbreaking video uploaded via X read:
“Damar Hamlin was alone on the field at Paycor Stadium after the game. It was an emotional scene as Hamlin spent nearly 15 minutes on the logo in Cincinnati.”
Within 24 hours of its posting, the clip had garnered nearly five million views, with thousands of likes and hundreds of replies. A look at the replies revealed fan support for Hamlin’s actions, with one write“I watched it all here on TV and it made me want to cry, a sad story but with a happy ending because it could have been worse.”
Second fan specified, “Man he deserves this so bad. Glad to see him here. Must be very real,” in the third person offered this view, “Like it or hate it, if you’re watching the game, you’re actually watching a guy die on live TV. To stand where you die takes some emotion.”
“It feels cathartic as a fan today just to be able to mentally move past what happened last year so I can only imagine how it feels to be back in a place where his life was changed forever. Hopefully it will also be a catharsis for him??,” a fourth fan typed.
Fans were also hyped when Hamlin himself declared his return to the sport after undergoing a medical examination a few months after the incident. As reported by The Blast, he took to social media to state, “This event was life-changing, but it’s not the end of my story. I’m here to announce that I plan to return to the NFL.”

The NFL star then officially signed back onto the field during the preseason and his performance earned him the respect of fans and teammates as he recorded three solo tackles and contributed to the team’s 23-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Hamlin Faced His Pain When THIS Happened
Last month, the 25-year-old was forced to relive the harrowing incident when teammate Damien Harris was carried off the field on a stretcher. The running back suffered a neck injury during the first half of the Week 6 game against the New York Giants.
Due to clips of the moment appearing online, viewers were able to see Hamlin’s vivid reaction to the event as Harris was sent off. Summarizing the content of the clip, poster X wrote in the caption:
“Damar Hamlin with all the real, deep emotion of what he went through on Jan. 2, with Bills teammate Damien Harris on the field, in the latest scary #NFL injury ?.”
It was later revealed that the 26-year-old, who has since been released from the hospital, suffered the injury on third-and-1 in the second quarter when he took a hit to the neck from a New York Giants linebacker. Bobby Okereke.
