Nick Carter Files Lawsuit Against His Sexual Assault Accusers For $2,350,000

Nick Carter filed a defamation suit against his sexual assault accuser, claiming the allegations were nothing more than an attempt to extort money from him.

In 2022, the Backstreet Boys member was hit with horrific allegations when a woman named Shannon Ruth claimed he assaulted her when she was 17 years old. The woman joins other accusers who claim the singer abused them at a young age.

According to new legal documents obtained by The Blast, Carter is suing the group for defamation saying he will not allow his name to be tarnished by opportunists. He named his accusers — Ruth, Melissa Schuman Henschel, Jerome Schuman, AR, and Doe @ElaineMoo Twitter Account Holder — as co-conspirators trying to “extort” money from him.

Nick Carter Claims Sexual Assault Case Was An Attempt To Extort Money From Him

However, Carter vehemently denied these allegations with his latest lawsuit claiming the sexual assault case was a conspiracy designed to harass him. He plans to clear his name and wants these alleged victims to pay a high price for their accusations. The claim reads:

“Ruth and AR’s lawsuit is the culmination of a five-year conspiracy orchestrated by the Co-Conspirators to harass, defame and blackmail Carter. This campaign was launched and supported by the #MeToo movement.”

The document states the drama began when Schuman posted a “disgraceful blog entry” in November 2017 in which she accused Carter of sexually assaulting her in 2003. Once the allegations came to light, the singer claimed she, her father, and Jerome recruited Ruth and AR into the scheme slander them.

Schuman and Jerome allegedly coached and coached Ruth to elevate her story from being bullied and physically harmed by Carter to being sexually assaulted. Legal filings accuse the co-conspirators of previously trying to extort money from him through civil attorneys.

However, the suit alleges that these lawyers abandoned pursuit of their clients after the evidence was presented after re-examining their claims. The Backstreet Boys singer also refused to negotiate with the alleged victims, an action he claims made them escalate their “disturbance”.

“Thereafter, Schuman, Ruth, AR, and Jerome launched their smear campaign to accuse Carter and others of engaging in “covering up” and “bullying,” the document explains.

The lawsuit cited the accuser’s use of her late brother, Aaron Carter, who struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues at the time.

“In the months leading up to his recent death, Aaron not only apologized to Carter for his involvement in [accusers] smear campaign but openly stated that [accusers] is a liar,” the suit continued, adding:

“Aaron also confirms and discloses [them] underlying conspiracy to defame and blackmail Carter, stating, ‘Melissa Schuman instigated a plan with her father to use me and my platform.’”

Carter is seeking $2,350,000 in damages for emotional distress, punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.

Inside Ruth’s Sexual Assault Allegations Against Nick Carter

As noted, Ruth filed her complaint against Carter in December 2022, alleging he sexually assaulted her when she was 17 years old. “The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame, and self-harm as a direct result of Nick Carter raping me,” the alleged victim claimed in a press conference.

“Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me,” Ruth continued, noting the singer verbally attacked her. with slanderous words and left him with a bruise on his arm.

He claims it took years to get out because he was afraid of going to prison but overcame this fear to prevent Carter “from attacking more teenagers and women.” In his defense, the media personality’s lawyer, Michael Holtz, dismissed Ruth’s claims as false and “not legally meritorious.”

“These claims about an incident that supposedly happened more than 20 years ago are not only legally unworthy but also completely untrue,” explained Holtz. “Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick – and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time.”

Carter’s lawyers also slammed Ruth’s lawyers for rejecting their client’s narrative through the press. “No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by opportunist lawyers,” he claimed. “There is nothing wrong with this claim, which we’re sure the court will soon notice.”
