Viall and his podcast co-host wasted no time revealing their thoughts on Fuller and DePhillipo’s former relationship, which can be confirmed to have ended on screen with an engagement.
He and Joy discussed DePhillipo’s fear of commitment to begin with.
“Look, I’m not trying to criticize Johnny, you know, in this case, it’s not a criticism, more like, an observation. An observation from someone who isn’t emotionally invested in that moment, who can look at it more honestly, a little more objectively,” Viall began.
“The reality is, she communicated a lot throughout the season, her reluctance, her fear, about getting engaged, and her willingness to get engaged. It’s obviously a big part of his storyline with Gabby [Windey]. At one time he told us, America, he was afraid of commitment, and maybe because he had been hurt, as he referred to that. [And] then he told Victoria something completely different,” Viall continued.
“I understand why,” he continued. “You don’t want to sound confused or unsure of your feelings, so you play it off. But, I’m not accusing Johnny of lying to Victoria, I’m just saying that, that broke the relationship. He also said something to the proposal, which was very sweet, but he said to her, he was trying to validate Victoria, and she said, “I’ve never felt so confident in myself or confident, he basically said ‘ you are the reason why I feel like this right now,’ and that’s very sweet, but objectively you should want to feel it yourself, and you can’t rely on other people to be the reason why you believe in yourself, and the reason you finally have confidence. Honestly, it’s too much pressure in any one relationship,” continued Viall.
“It’s a very relatable feeling and it happens in relationships all the time,” Viall continued. “It’s not a criticism of Johnny, but I think when we go in, obviously they’re not together anymore, they’re separated, I think it should be Johnny’s liking, acknowledging that and taking some accountability even though I’m sure he’s upset and he’s right to be upset, and she deserves to have her feelings heard, that maybe they’re not just a good couple. Maybe it’s just as toxic as Victoria claims…”
Viall revealed Fuller will be a guest on next week’s episode of “The Viall Files,” and the host certainly has more questions for her!
