Nikki Haley’s campaign spent thousands on luxury hotels despite claims it’s ‘smart with every dollar’

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s campaign spent thousands on luxury hotels last year despite her team claiming it ran a “tight ship” and stayed in “affordable” accommodations.

According to Haley’s third-quarter payment filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), her campaign spent more than $11,000 on luxury, four- and five-star hotels.

That includes stays at The Breakers, a luxury hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, and Wave Resort in Long Branch, New Jersey.

Other hotel expenses listed in the report include stays at the luxury Fairmont Hotel in Texas, the Omni Hotel, the JW Marriott and several stays at the luxury Fort Des Moines Hotel in Iowa.

The hotel bills are in contrast to the frugality touted by Haley’s campaign and her comments during the most recent primary debate between her and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, when she blasted him for what he described as millions of dollars in his campaign.

“He spends more on private planes than commercial ones. I fly commercial. I stayed at Residence Inns. We go and keep our money,” Haley said. “We make sure we spend it right because you have to understand it’s not your money. It’s other people’s money. And you have to know how to deal with it.”

Haley’s campaign made similar claims in multiple fundraising emails sent last July, including one that said it was “being smart with every dollar.”

“We run a tight ship at Team Haley. Supporters like you contributed your hard-earned money to elect Nikki, and we made sure to spend that money wisely,” the email said.

“Nikki is an accountant, not a lawyer. When Nikki and the team went to New Hampshire and Iowa, they flew on many Spirit and JetBlue flights. When they stay in hotels, they don’t stay in luxury suites, they stay in many Residence Inns,” he added.

Another email stated that the campaign’s road team is not “out there chartering private planes like some campaigns. You fly Spirit and JetBlue a lot.”

“We take you to New Hampshire, Iowa, and wherever you need to go with the most affordable options we can find. And when you all land, you take the rest of the staff around in a rental car. You won’t be staying in a luxury suite. You stay at an affordable hotel,” he said.

“Our team is lean and mean. We track every penny that goes in and out of our campaign because that was the expectation that was set on day one.”

In addition to luxury hotels, Haley’s FEC report also includes stays at lower-rated hotels, such as Residence Inns and Hampton Inns, but those stays are not included in the amount spent for those classified as luxury.

“As an accountant, Nikki Haley understands the importance of maintaining a budget,” the Haley campaign told Fox News Digital. “That’s what our campaign does, making smart decisions about staff size, TV spend and travel. The proof is in the pudding: It’s now a two-person race with Nikki rising, Trump falling and DeSantis fading fast after lighting up $150 million.”
