Cricket

Nishant started his cricket career in 2017, he played the U-14 Dhruv Pandove Trophy tournament that was held in Patiala. He scored 290 runs and bagged 24 wickets in the tournament for Haryana. Later, in the same year, he became part of the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy tournament and played the 61st match for Haryana against Delhi. He scored 122 runs and became the top scorer in the tournament. In 2019, Nishant performed really well by scoring 53 runs in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy for Haryana and defeated Jharkhand.

He made his international debut by playing U-19 ODIs on 27 December 2021 against Afghanistan in Dubai. He has been part of other international ODIs against countries like Sri Lanka, Australia, the West Indies, England, and Bangladesh. In 2021, he scored 299 runs and 12 wickets for Haryana in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy tournament.

U-19 Cricket World Cup

In 2021, Nishant was selected for the India U-19 squad for the Asia Cup and U-19 World Cup. The Indian team won the tournament by 4 wickets in the final match against England.

When Yash Dhull tested positive for Covid-19 during the World Cup tournament, Nishant headed the Indian team for two matches against Ireland and Uganda. Nishant also tested positive for Covid-19 and was not able to play the quarter-final match against Bangladesh. After recovering from Covid-19, he played the semi-final match against Australia. In the final match against England, he made fifty runs on fifty-four balls.

According to his father, he noticed Nishant’s interest in cricket when he saw the happiness on Nishant’s face after India won the T-20 World Cup in 2007. His father bought him a plastic cricket bat to play cricket. In an interview, his father talked about this and said,

    I always wanted him to be a sportsperson, be it cricket or boxing. I decided that I would never let anything come between him and his dream. He wanted to play cricket, and I decided to back him with my last penny.”

  • In 2011, he got admission to the Shri Ram Narain Cricket Academy where he took coaching under Sant Rathee. In an interview, his coach talked about him and said,
