A New Jersey man fatally stabbed his elderly parents, leaving a gruesome scene that included blood on the front door, prosecutors said.
The son of suspected killer Michael Mulgrew, 34, was arrested Thursday near the family’s Lincoln Avenue home in Barnegat Township, where he is accused of killing his mother, Cheryl Mulgrew, 69, and father, Eugene Mulgrew, 71, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
It’s unclear exactly what brought law enforcement to the home, but when they arrived around 11 a.m., they saw what appeared to be blood on the front door — and when they entered, they found more blood in various areas. .
Authorities later found the bodies of the older Mulgrews in a bedroom with stab wounds to their upper bodies, officials said.
Officers also found a knife near the bedroom.

Their son’s escape was thwarted when Barnegat Township police spotted him at West Bay Boulevard and Gunning River Road, authorities said.
He was arrested and charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, officials said.
