A New Jersey man was arrested last week after authorities say he manipulated a pump at a gas station in Delaware to steal more than $1,700 in gas.
Kelvin Giron-Brand, 34, of Paterson, installed a special device on the fuel pump at the Wawa in New Castle to dispense large amounts of fuel for a fraction of the cost, Delaware State Police said.
Troopers responded just after 3pm Tuesday to a reported theft of fuel at Wawa and found Giron-Brand at the pump in a white Ford van.
Troopers checked the fuel pump used by Giron-Brand and found one of these devices, according to authorities.
Officers also found several containers in Giron-Brand’s work van containing more than $1,700 worth of fuel.
Giron-Brand had paid less than $20 for the fuel thanks to a manipulation device, authorities said.
Giron-Brand was taken into custody without incident.
He is charged with shoplifting over $1,500, possession of burglary tools or instruments involving the disabling of a security system and second-degree conspiracy, all of which are felonies.
