NJ native Itay Glisko among those killed in Hamas terror attack: ‘Fought with courage to the end’

A New Jersey man was among more than 1,200 people killed in a weekend Hamas attack on Israel, according to Gov. Phil Murphy.

Itay Glisko, 20, “tragically lost his life during [Saturday] attack,” the Democrat posted on X Wednesday, confirming the Daily Beast report.

Glisko, who the governor noted “spent his early years in Paramus,” is a dual citizen who served a mandatory three-year term in the Israel Defense Forces, according to the outlet.

His family reportedly received the official news on Tuesday. The circumstances of Glisko’s death are unclear.

“He really was an amazing kid,” said Zehava’s brother Glisko Kaufman, who was at the vigil at the Jewish Community Center in Tenafly when he learned the news.

“A soldier who was with him said he fought bravely to the end,” he added.

Eyal Glisko’s cousin, a North Jersey resident, told the outlet that Glisko was “a beautiful boy” who “did his job.”

“With all due respect to my family, it’s not just him. There are hundreds of families in this position, who don’t know what happened to their loved ones.”

“I don’t know how many of them are soldiers,” he added. “But it was devastating. It is devastating.”

Glisko is the middle child that Glisko Kaufman affectionately refers to as “the sandwich boy.”

He was “a very good man” who was “loved by everybody,” she said.

Before receiving confirmation of his death, Glisko’s family was “alone” with worry, watching TV around the clock and waiting for any updates on his whereabouts, family members said.

Itay has long supported the Palestinian people’s right to autonomy and sovereign independence, according to Eyal, who noted that he was killed in land that has been part of Israel for 75 years.

“This is not about finding a solution,” Eyal said. “They just came in and slaughtered everyone. This is like ISIS,” he said, repeating a comparison made by President Biden.

At least 22 Americans were among those slaughtered and 17 remain unaccounted for, the White House said on Wednesday.

A “very small” number of US citizens have been held hostage in Gaza, according to National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby.
