They must be joking.
South Dakota’s Rapid City Police Department introduced the newest applicant for its K9 unit on Facebook last week: a pint-sized goat.
The department posted a clip of an officer leading the animal around a parked car in a mock trial and showcased their comedy in the caption.

“Apparently the RCPD K9 Unit is trying out new recruits this week, and it seems this kid is pretty stubborn,” police wrote.
“Even though we know her ability to sniff out drugs and chase down bad guys isn’t ‘Greatest of All Time,’ she’ll take the job if it’s just based on cuteness!”
Goats aren’t the only animals Rapid City police are considering adding to their recruitment list.

The K9 unit said on their Facebook page that they are “still working on the logistics of the police cat program.”
