Career
Noel Tata with UN Women to promote gender equality
He started his career by working at Tata International, a Tata entity that offers products and services overseas. In 1999, he became the managing director of Tata International’s retail vertical Trent, which was founded by his mother. At the time, Trent had just acquired Littlewoods International (a department store) and renamed it Westside. Noel worked for Westside growth and soon turned it into a profitable venture. Under his leadership, Trent’s market value increased to Rs. 40,000 Crore in 2021 from 3,600 Crore in 2014. He was also appointed as director of Titan Industries and Voltas in 2003. In 2010-2011, he was the managing director of Tata International. At that time this company handled the foreign business of Tata conglomerate US $ 70 Billion. He was also praised for his work for Voltas which has doubled in market valuation from Rs. 18,000 to more than Rs. 40,000. In 2019, he was nominated as a trustee for Tata Trusts and is currently a trustee of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trust which controls Tata Sons. Noel Tata continues to work in an executive role until November 2021, and steps down after turning 65. Currently, he holds several non-executive positions in the TATA Group. This includes serving as chairman of Trent, Voltas, Tata International, Tata Investment Corp and vice chairman of Titan.

Controversy
Speculators believe that he will be the successor of the Tata Group after Ratan Tata. But in 2011, Noel’s brother-in-law Cyrus Mistry was announced as Ratan Tata’s successor. However, in 2016, Cyrus was removed from the post and Ratan Tata took over as chairman. He held this position for four months and finally stepped down in February 2017.
