NY Democrat who blasted NYC migrant buses mocks the ‘ignorance’ of locals during ongoing crisis: ‘They are fearful’

A hypocritical upstate New York Democrat is privately venting about his constituents’ opposition to transporting immigrants to their city — months after he publicly blasted Mayor Adams for “policy failure” to send them there.

State Sen. John Mannion, who launched a bid for New York’s hotly contested 22nd congressional district in July, was caught on a Sept. 14 Zoom call discussing “immigrant issues” with other Democratic candidates, Fox News reported.

“I represent that Republican constituency,” Mannion said in the leaked call.

“They fear that busloads of migrants will come into their homes and change their communities,” he continued.

“It’s just unbelievable to me, but I’m not surprised by the ignorance.”

In May, Mannion criticized Adams for transporting a bus full of asylum seekers to a hotel in Salina, NY, a city in his state senate district, which stretches from Syracuse to Oswego.

“New York City’s unilateral decision to send immigrants four hours from their destination of choice is a policy failure playing out in real time,” Mannion told NewsChannel 9.

“This situation is not fair to immigrants or the community I represent.”

Rep. Brandon Williams, a Republican freshman who won the NY-22 congressional seat in 2022 by just 4,000 votes, told The Post that Mannion and his fellow Democrats are to blame for the Biden administration’s escalating border crisis — and mocked his opponents.

“John Mannion said you don’t know for sharing common sense concerns about the immigrant crisis that threatens NY-22,” Williams said.

“Insulting voters who care about public safety is not the best way to launch a campaign, John.”
