NY House Republicans move to expel ‘fraudster’ George Santos

Six new Republican members of Congress from New York want to deny Rep. Long Island George Santos who lied.

Rep. Nassau County’s Anthony D’Esposito announced Wednesday that he will “introduce a resolution of impeachment to remove House Imposter George Santos” following the indictment that supersedes the indictment against his fellow Republican that was dropped on Tuesday.

“Right now, we’re focused on getting him out of Congress,” D’Esposito told reporters when asked if Republicans would expel Santos from their conference before kicking him out of office.

Empire State GOP Reps. Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Nick Langworthy and Brandon Williams will co-sponsor the measure, which needs a two-thirds majority to pass.

“He has no business being in the Dewan Rakyat. He is immoral, he is not trustworthy,” LaLota told reporters Wednesday.

“This is the most provable case of electoral fraud we have ever faced,” he said. “He should be out of Congress immediately.”

Democrats have repeatedly hammered the GOP over Santos, who was found to have embellished much of his backstory even before he was indicted in May on charges including fraud and money laundering.

Earlier this year, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released billboards trying to tie New York’s vulnerable GOP incumbent to the 35-year-old scandal.

Santos was charged with 10 additional charges by the Eastern District of New York on Tuesday, bringing the number of charges pending against him to 23.

The lawmaker is accused of embezzling money from his campaign, lying to Congress, falsifying records with the Federal Election Commission, stealing the identities of campaign donors, and racking up tens of thousands of dollars on their credit cards without authorization.

“I will continue to fight this… Nothing has changed,” Santos told reporters on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

D’Esposito’s planned resolution comes amid House GOP turmoil.

Eight Republican opponents ousted former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Oct. 3, leaving the chamber frozen until a replacement can be chosen.

Democrats introduced legislation to expel Santos following his initial allegations, but Republicans intervened to refer the matter to the House Ethics Committee.

The House currently has 221 Republican members, 212 Democratic members and two vacancies, which will be filled by a special election later this year.

Assuming all members were present and voting, Republicans could only afford to lose four votes and pass legislation along party lines.
