NYC mom whose daughter was killed in Israel warns Americans sympathetic to Hamas’ cause

An Upper East Side mother whose daughter was one of 260 people slaughtered by Hamas at a music festival is pleading with Americans who support the terror group’s efforts to reconsider.

Hannie Ricardo Oriya’s daughter was shot dead at the Tribe of Nova event, where terrorists opened fire on fleeing crowds, threw grenades at concertgoers and took hostages.

“You have terrorists and many people in America support them. In the name of freedom of speech, you let them speak and support these terrorists,” Ricardo told The Post. “I know you have this freedom of speech amendment, but you also support that freedom to hate. What do you do with that? Freedom to hate – is that good? Give me one good reason for the freedom to hate.”

Ricardo, 58, who studies at Hunter College here, said, “I couldn’t stand it. I collapsed,” after the death of Oriya, 26, who was killed while trying to escape from a surprise attack on October 7.

“My daughter tried to run away and cried, but they chased her after 100 meters from the car and shot her,” said the mother of three. “They called me and they told me that my daughter was missing and I took the first flight back to Israel.”

Oriya Richardo and his mother share a touching moment. Hannie Ricardo’s daughter was shot dead at the Tribe of Nova event, where Hamas terrorists opened fire on the fleeing crowd. Oriya Ricardo was “the light of my life, and it was taken from me in the most cruel way,” his mother told The Post.Instagram / @oriya.ricardo

Ricardo returned to Tel Aviv, where his two older daughters also lived before the attack, earlier this week.

“She is the most beautiful girl on the planet,” said the grieving mother, wistful as she spoke of her youngest child. “I’m still waiting for him to come through the door [or give] I get a phone call saying, ‘Oh that’s a mistake, that’s not your daughter’ and I’m going to see her with a boyfriend, married. I will see my grandson. I’m still hoping, but, you know.

“It’s not going to happen so it breaks my heart, whatever is left. It’s broken, broken into pieces.”

He repeated calls for the world to stand up to Hamas, whose surprise attacks by air, sea and land have so far left 1,300 dead, including 27 Americans, and seen 150 hostages taken.

Another 1,900 have been killed in the Gaza Strip as Israel relentlessly bombards the area, vowing to wipe Hamas out of existence.

“They are people who hate and they live to kill. This is not a war. In war, no matter how stupid they are, they have soldiers who fight against soldiers,” he said. “This is an operation organized by the Nazis. It’s this kind of cruelty that you see doing the Holocaust. … Is this war? It’s not a war. It slaughters people for fun.
