NYC public defender Victoria Ruiz to keep job after taking down Israeli hostage posters

A New York County public defender will be able to keep his job after apologizing for tearing down posters of missing hostages in the Israel-Hamas war, his employer said.

Attorney Victoria Ruiz was caught on viral video last week tearing down one of the many posters that have been put up in the Big Apple since the terrorist organization attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

In the clipRuiz ignored the person behind the camera who repeatedly asked, “Why did you take down the picture of the missing child?”

Ruiz was identified as the person who tore down the poster in the video by the non-profit watchdog StopAntisemitism.

When contacted by The Post, New York County Defender Services condemned Ruiz’s actions as “grossly insensitive.”

“It has come to our attention that one of our attorneys, Victoria Ruiz, recently attended a public vigil solely in her capacity as a private citizen,” Lupe Todd-Medina, spokeswoman for New York County Defender Services, said in a statement to The Post.

“Some of his actions at the event have drawn sharp criticism and we condemn them as highly insensitive.”

But following an internal investigation into the incident, NYCDS accepted Ruiz’s apology and his promise to “do better.”

“Ms. Ruiz has apologized to those who were hurt or confused by her actions. After an internal review, and a pledge by all involved to do better, we accept this apology and now refocus on the hard work of our mission: achieving justice and dignity for every individual we represent,” said Todd-Medina.

Countless individuals have been filmed in New York City tearing down or defacing posters of children and adults held hostage in the Israel-Hamas war.

Among the offenders were an NYU student who lost a job offer because of the scandal and a Brooklyn man who was arrested after getting into a fight who was caught on video accidentally trying to tear down a hostage poster.
