NYC won’t see snow this week but dreary, gray skies in the forecast

New York City avoided snow this week, but it will be gray skies ahead.

After being hit by freezing weather in the last few weeks of January, the month ended without a hitch as temperatures were expected to remain in the high 30s, lower 40s for the next few days, meteorologists said.

With temperatures remaining above average this time of year, Sunday’s rain won’t turn into snow, Fox Weather told The Post — saving the city from any winter downpours.

Although it is expected to rain all day Sunday, the drizzle will stop the next morning around 8am

With the passing of the storm system, no other precipitation is expected to hit the New York City area until Friday, where there is a small chance of light rain.

No major temperature changes are expected for this week, with partly cloudy skies expected to hang around.

The clouds are forecast to part by the weekend, with the following Sunday seeing a cool but sunny day.

Although January will end with a lack of snow and warmer weather than usual, winter may bite as climate scientists predict a polar vortex will occur in February.

“The cold is likely to return to eastern North America in mid-February, a region where the cold lasts longer,” said Judah Cohen, a VERISK atmospheric and environmental research scientist.

Cohen warned New Yorkers to be off guard given the warmer temperatures at the end of January that will continue into the first week of February, with cold weather expected to hit soon.

“I think in the time frame of the second week of February and maybe even mid-February, the polar vortex unfolding becomes more likely,” Cohen added.
