Former president Obama’s top campaign guru says President Biden’s chances of winning the 2024 presidential election are “no better” than 50-50 — and possibly worse.
David Axelrod made that grim prediction to New York Times Columnist Maureen Dowd on Saturday. Biden, the nation’s oldest president, will turn 81 on Monday and will be 86 at the end of his second term.
“I think he has a 50-50 shot here, but no better than that, maybe a little worse,” Axelrod said. “He thinks he can cheat nature here and it’s really risky. They have a real problem if they expect Trump to win it for them. I remember Hillary doing that too.”
There’s likely no love lost between the two men, as Biden has been known to privately refer to Axelrod as a “prick,” Politico reported earlier this week. The bad blood underscores the broader rift that has long persisted between Team Obama and the political camps of Team Biden.

As the economy slumps and war rages in the Middle East and Europe, Americans are increasingly pessimistic about Biden’s second term, polls show.
A Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll released last week showed Trump leading Biden in six swing states, with or without third-party spoilers.
